Milica (Age Five) , the Last Serbian Child Left Living In Prizren in 2011: The Ancient Serbian Capital of Emperor Dushan (+) In Kosovo & Metohija
Little Milica, age five, is currently the last living Serbian child left residing in Prizren, the ancient Serbian capital of Emperor Dushan, in Kosovo & Metohija.
Of the approximately ten thousand residents left in, Prizren, until 1999, today there are only seventeen Serbs left in, Prizren. And of those seventeen, there is living only one Serbian child in 2011, a five-year old named, Milica.
This article reveals the many difficult obstacles little, Milica, faces as the last living Serbian child in Prizren, through the lens of her mother, Evica Djordjevic. Evica, tells us notwithstanding the many difficulties she and Milica face, she has remained steadfast to remain in Prizren; she tells us why and how:
The consequences of ethnic cleansing in Kosovo & Metohija, by the Kosovo Liberation Army, their associated gangs members and/or terrorists, and also, the NATO bombing in 1999 is shockingly obvious.
In examining the remaining Serb population left living in the major cities of Kosovo & Metohija, the Serbs left can be counted using only two fingers ! A fact also true when examining the ancient Serbian capital of Emperor Dušan, Prizren.
Prizren today in 2011, is hardly recognizable to the once proud city it was, extolling itself in its multiethnic population, and bringing people together. During the reign of Serbian Emperor Dusan, In Prizren there lived: Albanians, Turks, Serbs, Goranis and Croats together; today it is different.
On March 17th 2004, there were fifty Serbs in left living in, Prizren; unfortunately, all of those fifty Serbs left in Prizren were forcibly evacuated to a KFOR military base. They survived the war in 1999, but the majority failed returning to their city. Since, they have survived merely due to the care they receive from the Orthodox Christian clergy, and in some cases owing to the protection offered them by their Turkish neighbors.
The most moving example of this is the unselfish friendship between Evica Đorđević, her daughter Milica, and "grandfather" Adem Mujović. Only when accompanied by him, do they dare venture out on the street. He must buys their food for them, and also take care of their other errands and business. Poor Milica, neither possesses time to play, nor the company of other friendly children, as American children do. All of Millica's time is spent either accompanied with her mother, or with that of her generous neighbor, a man over eighty years old, whom she refers to merely as, "grandpa." The family's monthly income is merely, fifty-five Euros, not even enough money to purchase the bread and milk she needs for one day!
Living her lonely life completely in this type of isolation, Milica, spends her said childhood, can you imagine that?
